Ok. Could be better though.

These are ok, but not as good as I expected. The drawings and photos on the cards come out of Dissection of The Dog (Evans/Delahunta), Miller's Anatomy of the Dog, and Textbook of Veterinary Anatomy (Dyce). Each card has several anatomical features numbered, with the answers on the back. The cards are full-color, and the printing is good. 80% or so are based on canine anatomy; the other 20% are horse, bird, cat, pig, cow.

Where I feel these flashcards fall short:

1) Because there are several items labelled on each card, once you look at the back, you see the rest of the answers. I expected only one item per card so I could use them as true flashcards. The way these are setup, they are no better than using the pages out of the textbook to quiz yourself.

2) The durability of the cards is poor. They are on lighter stock than I would have expected, and they are not coated. As a result, the corners bend very easily.

3) The box they come in is slightly too small to hold all of them. As a result, the box corner seams were split on arrival. The undersized box also makes it a very tight fit to get the cards in and out easily.

Overall:

These could have been a good tool, but it doesn't seem like much thought went in to putting them together. If you already have Dissection of the Dog or Anatomy of the Dog, I wouldn't recommend getting these cards.

Great For Vets and Vet Techs

These flash cards really helped me memorize the anatomy of common animal species such as the cat, dog, horse, and pig. I especially needed help on the farm animals as I am not going into large animal practice so I needed more help to prepare for the large animal tests. Highly recommend.

Fantastic Study Tool!

I am a first year veterinary student and I will admit that anatomy is not one of my strong suits. Especially since this is my first time learning all new species! I love these cards. I am a visual learner so reading about anatomy doesn't really help me much, I need to be able to see it. I have tried reading Duke's but that hasn't really helped me very much. I bought these and have been using them as my primary source to study anatomy. The box comes with all different species (equine, dog, cat, pig, cow) no birds though. The cards are also organized into body area like thorax, pelvic limb, and so on. The cards also make them easier to take on the go, you can just take the section and species that you are focusing on put them in your bag and pull them out when you have a few extra minutes between classes.

About the Author
John N. Ferdico holds a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law and a B.A. in Sociology from Dartmouth College. He is a former Assistant Attorney General and Director of Law Enforcement Education for the State of Maine. Other books he has published are FERDICO'S CRIMINAL LAW AND JUSTICE DICTIONARY and the MAINE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER'S MANUAL. Ferdico currently writes and runs a legal publishing company in Bowdoinham, Maine.

Henry F. Fradella is a Professor in and Associate Director of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Arizona State University. He earned a B.A. in psychology from Clark University, both a master's in forensic science and a J.D. from The George Washington University, and a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary justice studies from Arizona State University. In addition to having published more than 75 scholarly articles, comments, and reviews, Dr. Fradella is the author of eight other books, including four published by Wadsworth: AMERICA'S COURTS AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM; CRIMINAL PROCEDURE FOR THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROFESSIONAL; KEY CASES, COMMENTS, AND QUESTIONS ON SUBSTANTIVE CRIMINAL LAW; and FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY: THE USE OF BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE IN CIVIL AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE. Dr. Fradella has twice served as a guest editor of the Journal of Contemporary Criminal Justice and as the Legal Literature editor of West's Criminal Law Bulletin for four terms (Volumes 41-44). A fellow of the Western Society of Criminology, he currently serves as the editor of the society's journal, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Law & Society. Christopher D. Totten has an A.B. from Princeton University, and a J.D. and LL.M. (Masters in Law) from Georgetown University Law Center. He is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice (Law) at Kennesaw State University, where he teaches numerous law and criminal justice courses to undergraduate and graduate students. His scholarship spans criminal law and procedure, international crime (with a focus on adjudication), and interdisciplinary law and social science research (with a focus on courts/ jurisprudence and police attitudes). He has published in key journals such as the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, the Criminal Law Bulletin, the New Criminal Law Review, the Berkeley Journal of International Law, and the Georgetown Journal of International Law. Finally, he is the criminal law commentator for the Criminal Law Bulletin (Volumes 46-51).

Very easy to read and learn from

I bought this for a my brother, who needed it for class. As a law school graduate I perused it to see what kind of perspective the authors seek to give criminal justice professional. I was pleasantly surprised by how clear the authors present the issues, how simply they break everything down and how easy it all is to understand. I thought that I would feel the book is too simple because I went to law school but in fact I came away thinking that this book was perfect and I wish I had it for a few of my criminal law classes. If you have a genuine interest in the criminal justice profession, from the philosophy down to the nuts and bolts, this is a great book to pick up.

I ordered one that was in good condition and at first I thought it was okay

I purchased this book for school. I ordered one that was in good condition and at first I thought it was okay. The more I got into the book there was some writing and highlighting and now that I'm in the middle of the book even just having the book open is making the book fall apart. There was a part in the middle where it was starting to fall apart but its just getting worse and worse. With ordering a book that is in good condition I wouldn't except this to happen, and not after using it for 2 weeks.

Good book, needed it for class but it is pretty informative and easy to read. Would recommend the 10th edition though if you need to save money, essentially the exact same book the only difference is that the exclusionary rule is in different chapters

Solid philosophizing from the prolific Zizek

Well-written and often brilliant analysis of the global capitalist crisis in Zizek's trademark style with jokes and references to pop culture. Zizek makes the point I've long suspected that the so-called experts running the world really don't know what they're doing (except looking out for themselves) and that a new way of creating emancipatory politics is needed. Zizek is smart enough to know (and say) that traditional forms of communism have created generalized misery, oppression, and poverty for most, but his critique of capitalism is spot-on, timely, and well, expert. His voice is honest and unique and he boldly tells the truth, even humorously. I found myself getting fired up reading this book; it should be required reading for people to understand the incredible dark side of global capitalism (to nature, people, economics, politics, etc) and some alternate ways of thinking available as we head into pre-apocalyptic times. My only real complaint is that sometimes he laboriously describes another thinker's philosophy with words, when a simple chart or diagram would get the point across better; and the extensive footnotes in the back of the book are like a whole 'nother book in itself. But these are minor criticisms.

When we find ourselves in really really deep trouble as a species I think we will look back on this book and say "More people should've listened to Zizek, he was trying to tell us."

Thus, a book about the crisis in global capitalism from a Marxist perspective, from a legitimate Marxist philosopher no less, raises the expectation of new insights into the crisis from a noted social philosopher. Now I could have randomly picked any from this particular book and still be able to make today’s point: that Peripatetic was correct in his/her point that this is one of Zizek’s most accessible books. You might notice from Zizek’s quote, for instance, the striking absence of the deeper Lacanian explanations of the phenomenon at work and the etherspeak that comes with them. And I have yet to see them in what I have read so far.

But where I depart from Peripatetic on this matter is their underestimation of the value and import of the book. Whereas they see Zizek simply repeating the more nominal/accessible points he has scattered throughout his books, I see a Zizek that, in the face of urgency of our situation in the face of producer/consumer Capitalism, has recognized that high theory and social activism are two different kinds of activity, and that high theory, at best, has a trickledown effect on day to day matters. Whereas Peripatetic sees a lull in Zizek’s talent, I see Zizek (by working somewhere between the high theory he has mastered and the social criticism of a Naomi Klein (taking on the Promethean heroics of bringing fire to the people at a crucial time.

This is Zizek as usual in an interesting effort to discuss the 'end of history/capitalism' nexus, although Zizek does not really grapple with the original lineage of ideas. Further I suspect, as with Absolute Recoil, that he is trying to do an end run around this reviewer's Last and First Men where the subject is discussed at length in a new post-marxist format. I think that Zizek is trying to bury that new effort with a dogmatic assertion of old-fashioned marxism. Whatever the case I think this book fails to deal with the core history of the confused 'end of history' meme, where LFM attempts to find a new dynamic of history for the ur-Hegelian concept (which never quite appeared in Hegel). I still don't really know how to cook, but I'm learning. This book is close to Lebanese cooking, but not perfect. I may not know how to cook, but I do know when something's altered for this century and I always have my mom (and sister) to fall back on to ask if it's how mom made it.
