Not my cuppa "mean" tea

There is a lot wrong in this novel at least for me. I did read the whole novel however it was hard to finish. First of all it is kinda creepy to be writing your dead mother about your dating life even if it is some form of therapy. Next some of the dating scenarios seem stuck in the 90s with current technology added in to make it more hip I guess. I enjoyed it in Bridget Jones because it was relevant at that time; now not so much. I find the humour in the dates more on Jamie's blog than in Laura's journal, sometimes I cannot even tell the difference between Jamie's voice and Laura's. Spalding does not write the female voice well, there is no humour only whining, pathetic complaints. I like humour but "mean" humour is just something hard to enjoy. One thing I can possibly say is that Jamie and Laura do deserve each other, they can happily live in their self absorbed worlds.

I read a lot of reviews of this book that said it was hilarious. The only negative reviews seemed to be about all the sex and bad language, which I don't care about at all, so I borrowed it from the Kindle library. I returned it after two chapters and asked for my borrowing privilege returned. It was just awful. I don't know why it's funny to make fun of someone's looks. I get making fun of someone being an ass, but the shape of their butt or the fact that they have a lazy eye? That is what 10 years olds do--wait--mean 10 year olds. So save your money or your borrowing privilege unless you enjoy mean humor.

Sometimes you find a book that ticks every box for you. Love...From Both Sides was that book for me. It is well written, very funny, and entertaining. It had me giggling, chuckling, snorting, and laughing myself silly with tears in my eyes more than once. More importantly, it was very believable (I guess that's what real-life tales means), and I could easily relate to the heroine. Another thing that I liked was that the book was told from both male and female points of view, and I found it very refreshing. I definitely recommend Love...From Both Sides and its sequel Love...And Sleepless Nights.

Highly recommend!

This is a terrific read and will be my "go to" playbook as I navigate through a tumultuous divorce. I knew my ex was angry and selfish, but this book helped me recognize that his issues are much deeper and more troubling than I ever realized. I discovered that he fit the profile of someone with Narcissist Personality Disorder. As I read some of the examples Ms. Loomus gave, I got shivers up my spine. They were so similar to my own nerve-wracking experiences with my ex. This book has given me new hope. Now that I've identified the problem, and learned some great strategies, I'm determined to not just COPE with my high-conflict divorce, but WIN it, as the book's title suggests!

I had to borrow the book from someone else because I still haven't received it!! I ordered it on April 20th. Totally unacceptable! After I ordered it I discovered that I did not buy it directly from Amazon! I did not realize this. Let the buyer beware!

The book was fabulous! So much useful and true info. I only wish that I had read it sooner into my high conflict divorce! Every judge and lawyer needs to read it. Too much assumption on their part that one is dealing with two rational human beings without personality disorders in a divorce situation. This just isn't the case in many divorces.

The book outlines a self-improvement program designed to help sales professionals overcome low self-esteem using Maltz's own techniques for reprogramming the subconscious mind. Excellent rapid review you can finish quickly within 2-3 days right before the test. It covers a lot of topics including anatomy, nuclear medicine regulatory/safety issues, and MRI physics. I really liked the "this vs that" section because it only covers classic differentials that would likely be asked on the test, not esoteric head scratchers that you first heard of after studying for months. The book is rather thick like the other Crack the Core books and could have been made half the size because the pages use large fonts. Would have been even better in kindle format.

Helpful addition to the Crack the Core line of board review material. High yield cases with helpful diagrams and bullet point style information. This image rich resource is complimentary to the Crack the Core books. I especially like the "This vs That" section which drives home the differentiating features of similar pathologies. Excellent resource which goes along well with Prometheus Lionhart's Titan Radiology online video board review course.

Great source, but beware of errors!

Amazing book, very concise, hits the confusing points so eloquently. He/she exactly knows what is confusing to people. Many errors! that's what makes me give this book 4 stars. Needs revision. Learn your stuff from more stable books then read this book as a solidifying source so you are able to catch the mistakes and not learn the wrong things. Other crack the core books are reasonably free of errors(I hope!).

Top 9 secrets, out of 10

It's nice if you get to share a message that will change the world. Sometimes, you simply have to show people how to fill out a form. Sometimes, there just isn't that much room for passion. Sometimes, it can get really old being told One. More. Time. that you have to have "Passion!" in all that you do.

Yawn. Passion gets boring after a while, when you keep having your face rubbed in it.

I was more than a bit disappointed that the one fully-controllable, massively important factor in presentation success was hidden.

Practice.

You don't get on the TED stage without delivering the talk A LOT. At least 100 times, is what I've seen elsewhere. When I look at the TOC, there is no mention of "practice." It turns out that the topic of practice is presented, but under the heading, "have a conversation." Huh? The chapter goes on to talk about practice, but why hide this dirty necessity under a different label?

Practice is NOT conversation. I can follow the train of thought; that one should be able to deliver the material as easily as a conversation flows. But I disagree. Conversations can ramble, go off track, contain sidebars. Good presentations don't.

Most "bad" presentations could be markedly improved with a little bit of practice and feedback. Five times, out of your mouth, out loud, to the cat the first three times if you're shy. Good-enough public speakers know this; newbies think that just looking at the material is enough.

The more important the presentation, the more practice, rather than any other variable, will improve the delivery and reception. It's strange to me that this element of presentation success was not labelled as such. Maybe it looks too much like hard work?

Great title, good book

I was pleasantly surprised.

This book's catchy title uses TED brand equity just as feeble investment articles mention Warren Buffet in the title. Add "{an odd numeral} Secrets..." to the subtitle...and I was ready for lots of sizzle with very little steak.

But Gallo is not a blowhard. He knows his subject. Leaning the book so heavily on TED talks might seem like grand larceny, but it makes perfect sense. TED's rich and varied examples are a perfect way to learn, and they're at your fingertips, thanks to YouTube.

If you want to be an interesting presenter -- or just a more interesting person -- this is a good start. Even if they are not "Secrets," Gallo's classic and correct points add up to a solid, easily digested book.

Some of the main points, such as "Think outside the box," "Tell stories," "Create jaw-dropping moments," "Add some humor," require craftsmanship and practice. This book does not get you to the finish line. It shows you good examples and points you in the right direction.

Gallo drifts off into brain science for no good reason. People like funny. People like stories. People like pictures. People remember the unusual. Talk of dopamine, endorphins, and neural pathways adds nothing.
