Favorite Children's CD

My daughter's teacher, Mrs. Scilingo, recommended this CD to us. I have five kids, ages 8 to 1, and we began listening to the CD in the car to help my five-year-old learn to spell high-frequency words. What we didn't expect was that because the songs are so catchy, our three-year-old and one-year-old also began learning to sing and spell the words! I've always been VERY hands-off and gentle with my approach to teaching reading before age six with all of my kids, so the first three kids didn't learn any reading skills before age five. But after listening to the CD for a few weeks, we're amazed that our little guy (not quite eighteen months!) can spell 'and,' 'to,' 'like,' and other short, high-frequency words! I absolutely love these songs-- they contain the perfect mix of repetition, familiar tunes, and just enough silliness to keep kids interested and oblivious to the fact that they're learning.

Great Teacher Resource!

This book provides a way to teach and re-teach those important sight words through catchy, engaging songs that students love to sing. My kindergarten students will sometimes just start singing them on their own! The mini books that accompany each song are well thought out, and allow for practice writing the sight words as well as thinking about their use and drawing pictures to go with the songs. As a kindergarten teacher, it's one of my go-to books. I love it!

I have a musically talented disabled kindergarten student who is learning his sight words very quickly thanks to these songs. He loves singing them! A wonderful product to learn how to spell sight words and also sequence the letters correctly when spelling them. No more boring memorization.

Misleading packaging but otherwise OK

It's like you purchase a book with a title of 'fit for life' and find that the book is about a 3 week detox or weight loss plan. Even if the plan is genuine it is not what I bought the book for. This book mainly emphasizes on the Psychological aspects of eating. Emotional eating, will power etc. This is all good but it should be mentioned on the cover. I don't have any cravings or 'Emotional' problems. I bought this book written by a nutritionist to learn more about food choices, better eating, better timing etc and all I have got is some Psychological GYAN which is all very nice but not what I bought the book for. As another reviewer has said "If you want to buy one book on nutrition / weight loss then get Rujuta's book.

Fine book...but was expecting more

I've always followed Makhija's articles on eating right. So when i came across this book I immediately bought it to read what she has to say. The title is very interesting. It's a good book but i find it the contents very ok.... I like the portion when she starts giving details of diet. You can read this book at one go...I got this book at a good rate but if you buy from elsewhere at a higher rate then its not worth it...i still prefer reading her newspaper articles. But this book is an average read for all fitness freaks.

In all, a decent book...liked reading it but i'm looking forward to some in-depth knowledge about eating right in her next books.

Good book if you need motivation... But needs a patient read

It's unlike a similar book by Rujuta Diwekar titled Dont lose your mind, lose your weight, in that Rujuta's book is a real quick and easy read. Very crisp and to the point.. This one takes a lot of time to come to the point and dwells a lot on the mental toughness part, on building the mindset and the willpower. Not bad but like I said, someone like me who loves such books had the patience to go through it but am not sure if it can hold attention of many others. If there's only one book you want to read on Nutrition, read Rujuta's book.

A Must-have for those New to Master Tung's Acupuncture

Dr. Chu has written a concise little book which lays the groundwork for how to think like a proper acupuncturist and how to choose the correct points. This is not a "paint by numbers" or cookbook approach to acupuncture. There are a few points covered in this book, but the majority of it pertains to how to use Master Tung's Points and the orthodox points in a dynamic, flexible, and clinically relevant manner

Great book to get to know Mahout

This book provides a great starting point for everyone wanting to get in to Apache Mahout and interested in machine learning alike. I really like the way the author has explained many of the machine learning concepts without over-complicating them, which makes this a good book for any machine learning enthusiast. The step-by-step explanations make anyone try it out hands on to learn.

I purchased this book and I think is a good book for those guys want to start to learn about Apache Mahout. This book provides some interesting sample code about Clustering and Recommendations. But if you want to specialize in Apache Mahout you should read Mahout in Action. For me is the best book that you can purchase about Mahout.

About the Author
With Bachelor and Doctorate degrees in Chemical Engineering, Alan Wilson began his career in asset maintenance at Guinness, where he was responsible for managing the maintenance and project activities of over 200 in-house and contract trades people. He went on to manage the design, procurement, and building of new installations in Nigeria and the Cameroons. Wilson also worked as chief engineer for a large independent consulting firm, where he established and headed the maintenance management accounts with the Royal Navy, Kodak, British Nuclear Fuels, and British Petroleum and British Airways. Subsequently, he consulted for over 40 companies, including Ford, Shell, Amerada Hess, Anheuser Busch, Conoco, and Chevron and then launched his own consulting business, carrying out both project management and maintenance assignments. He has directed the design and construction of major new operations in Colombia and Hong Kong and assisted in the start-up of companies in the UK. Additionally he actively consults in auditing and benchmarking, strategy development, and the application of e-collaborative systems in asset maintenance. As a well-respected professional, Wilson is an advisor to many asset maintenance conferences and is a presenter at numerous seminars.

Hit and miss

Ever wondered what a book would look like if it was written chapter by chapter by some of the best authors in the field? Well, buy this book and you will know. The structure of the book is very good and covers a lot of ground. Many of the chapters (in fact most of them) are also very good, this is not just a high level and superficial treatment.
The problem (and I think it is a significant problem) is that all the authors have different styles of writing and slightly different emphasis when addressing issues. The result is a book that has a lot of information, but isn't really the guide it claims to be - the flow is insufficient to guide the reader through a process.
The book is good, it just isn't great which is a pity as the need is there.

Excellent Reference for Everyone

This book is complete, detailed, structured & full of good information that is easy to follow. It is the best book that I have bought on the subject of maintenance management to date, and is now one of the few constant companion books that travel with me. I would recommend Asset Maintenance Management to anyone in any field of maintenance management. At least one of the articles has a definite electrical diagnostic slant for our electrical bretheren.

My only criticisms would be that the spell checker wasn't functioning particularly efficiently at the time of editing, and I've noted that at least two of the graphics have been partially cut off at the base. Finally, this book is based entirely around fixed processing plant, and as yet have no seen no applications of the information to mobile plant.

In closing, maintenance principles, philosophies, strategies & tactics are roundly universal and this book is a "must-buy" for anyone of any maintenance persuasion seeking to continue down the road of Continuous Improvement.
